Title IX
At Coudersport ASD, we are committed to maintaining a safe, positive learning environment free from discrimination. We want every student to have equal access and opportunity to achieve their maximum potential through the programs we offer in our schools.
What is Title IX?
Title IX is a federal law mandating that students cannot be denied participation in any federally funded education or activity program solely based on their sex.
The Basics:
It is a federal civil right that prohibits sex discrimination in education.
It does not apply to female students or athletic programs only. It prohibits sex or gender discrimination in all educational activities or programs.
It requires schools to proactively ensure their campuses are free from sexual-based discrimination, harassment, or violence.
Title IX protects students from facing retaliation, from any source, as a result of involvement with Title IX.
Filing a Complaint
CASD recognizes that discrimination is inconsistent with the educational and programmatic goals of the district. We prohibit discrimination in any form on school grounds, at school-sponsored activities, and on any conveyance providing transportation to or from a school entity or school-sponsored activity.
If you are the victim of or witness to discrimination or harassment (even if the incident took place or originated away from school grounds or activities), promptly report the incident to the building principal or compliance officer. You may file the complaint using the district report form available from the building principal or put the complaint in writing. We also accept oral complaints, which we will document according to policy. The board shall promptly investigate any complaint and take action as dictated by district policy.
